GALESBURG — A yoga and fitness studio that opened earlier this year will move to the historic Seminary Street district next week.
Pedals, Planks & Poses will move into the former Cornucopia Natural Market & Deli location at 89 S. Seminary St. Monday. The fitness business had been in the basement of the Bondi Building at 311 E. Main St. since it first opened in early May.
Co-owners and spouses Will and Melissa Stokes had considered moving the business for some time because of the increased visibility it would offer, but they did not consider the former Cornucopia location until they walked past it while on their way to the Galesburg Farmers Market in late October. Within three weeks, they agreed to lease the building from Jay Matson and moved most of the items from their former location into the new one.
Will Stokes was only waiting on the arrival of eight mirrors as of Tuesday. He and Melissa had hoped to find a new downtown location before the post-holiday fitness season, and he was elated at how quickly their vision became a reality.
“We just happened to be lucky and at the right time and right place,” Stokes said.
With the new location will come new class offerings. The Stokes recently hired a new instructor to teach POUND classes from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. POUND participants use weighted drum sticks throughout the workout, which “combines cardio, conditioning and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements,” according to poundfit.com.
