Editor’s note: Meet Me at the Gym is an occasional Tuesday column about Southwest Florida group exercise classes. Wellness reporter Shelby Reynolds finds the newest workout crazes, unique locations and the interesting people behind them, then gives them a try so you know what to expect. Have a suggestion? Hands skyward, I stood tall in my sun salutation pose, feeling the gentle swell of the Gulf of Mexico rolling under my feet.

On a recent Sunday morning 30 feet from the shoreline, I felt the sunshine warm on my back. I had worried about sending my hips back into a downward dog atop a paddleboard, not yet trusting of my core muscles to steady my yoga poses on the water’s surface, but I did it, anyway.

Things would get more challenging from there — warrior poses, handstands, wheel.

I was ready for the challenge, though.

“Whether you’re an experienced yogini or not,” Jodi Ziajka, my instructor, promised, “anybody can do it.”
