Gwyneth Paltrow, 46, claims she was branded a “witch” and “freak” for her interest in yoga when she was younger.

The Academy Award winner said she was the one who popularised the ancient form of exercise in the West.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal’s magazine, the actress aid: “I remember when I started doing yoga and people were like, ‘What is yoga? She’s a witch. She’s a freak.’”

The A-List star, who launched her lifestyle brand Goop in 2008, admitted she was shocked when she arrived at a yoga class and was asked whether she had ever had a lesson before.

“Forgive me if this comes out wrong,” she said in the interview, “but I went to do a yoga class in L.A. recently and the 22-year-old girl behind the counter was like, ‘Have you ever done yoga before?’

“And literally I turned to my friend, and I was like, ‘You have this job because I’ve done yoga before.’”

Twitter users couldn’t help but mock Gwyneth’s statement about yoga, which was introduced thousands of years ago.
