Beware ‘kittenfishing’ – the new annoying online dating trend many of us are guilty of

The world of online dating just got weirder

Kittenfishing, by contrast, isn’t quite as bad as pretending you’re a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model who moonlights as a chess champion, but it’s still a worrying behaviour – and one many of us are guilty of.

Kittenfishing is what someone does when they present themselves in an in an unrealistically positive way. I.e. with a few tweaks (fibs) thrown in to make them look and sound better.

Think, several filters, professional lighting, numerous attempts at poses and maybe even a cheeky sprinkling of photoshop.

Basically, you are still in there…somewhere.

It’s quite as bad as catfishing though to be fair

But kittenfishing isn’t just about the all-important profile picture. It also extends to your description of yourself.

So, maybe you’ve tweaked your height a little bit. Or added some interests which aren’t strictly true – all in the name of coming across as someone you believe is interesting and well-rounded.
