NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — If you’re familiar with Tennessee State University, you know the Homecoming football game is one of the biggest events of the year.

But this year’s game was a little different.

It began honoring a player who couldn’t be on the field, injured linebacker Christion Abercrombie.

Abercrombie’s uncle Kevin Richardson was one of the family members who honored Abercrombie during the coin toss at Nissan Stadium.

Richardson was in the stands during that September 29th game that Abercrombie left in an ambulance, getting emergency brain surgery at Vanderbilt.
